Stanwood, Wash. – Process Solutions President Todd Busby signed off on a $5,000 donation to the Granite Falls Little League on Tuesday, after the league’s playing field was vandalized by a drunk driver.
Upon arriving to Perrigoue Memorial Field on Sunday morning, League President Bob Swanson discovered a trail of destruction left behind after a driver smashed through several of the fields chain-link fences, and drove over one of the field surfaces.
Unfortunately, the damage that was done to the field won’t be covered by the league’s insurance, which lays the burden of repairing the field on the community. To only make things worse, due to the damages and recent poor weather, the league was forced to suspend the Spring practices that were slated to start on Monday. With the first games of the season set for the 2nd week of April, repairs need to be made quickly.
After hearing about the vandalized fields, and seeing that the league hoped to raise $10,000 to cover the repairs, Todd Busby immediately reached out to Bob Swanson, and offered to cover half of the costs on behalf of Process Solutions.
“The idea that the kids would have to miss out on an activity they love all because of the selfish acts of one individual, really bothered me. I wanted to help get that field repaired as quickly as possible so the kids can get back to playing ball,” Busby said.
Busby spent 8 years as a coach for the Lake Stevens Little League, coaching his two boys from T-ball through Majors. Busby’s history with Little League, and the joy he has seen it bring to the kids he has coached, made this event hit especially close to home for him.
“The confidence that youth sports provides young athletes is irreplaceable,” explained Busby.
A spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has informed KOMO News that a 24-year-old Marysville man has been arrested for the incident on suspicion of DUI.
